Gemmill
Jill Gemmill
is Assistant Director of Academic Computing at the
University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB)
and directs the UAB Advanced
Technologies Laboratory. The Lab focuses
on integration of new
technologies with the existing campus infrastructure.
Ms. Gemmill's current
research activities include use of
single-sign-on authentication architectures,
secure videoconferencing, end-to-end
application performance,
and developing better collaboration
tools for virtual organizations.
Her research has been funded by the
National Science Foundation,
National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health.
A past Chair of ViDe, Jill is co-editor of the Video
Middleware Cookbook:
Directory Services for Multimedia Conferencing.
She is an active member
of ViDe, Internet2, EDUCAUSE, Gulf
Central GigaPoP, and SURA.
Her educational background includes
an MS in Computer Science and MSEE
Electrical Engineering.
