WELCOME

Why H.350? What problems are solved?

Voice calling and videoconferencing with colleagues and collaborators via the Internet is now easier and less expensive using the new H.350 “Directory Services Architecture for Multimedia Conferencing” standard ratified by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) in August 2003. The new standard provides a uniform way to store and locate information related to video and voice over IP (VoIP) in LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) directories that are linked seamlessly to enterprise directories.

H.350 provides a foundation for providing new and interoperable services such as white pages lookups and improved endpoint management.

Description of H.350 standard and demonstration of its use in pilot ViDeNet directory

This session will go over the H.350 standard which describes a standardized LDAP schema to represent endpoints on the network and associate them with users. We will go over some of the most used attributes and how to associate endpoints and SIP user agent to users.

Demonstrations will be part of this session.  We will demonstrate the use of H.350 in the pilot ViDeNet directory as well as how to use the directory to auto configure an endpoint as well as a SIP user agent.

BREAK

10:00 – 11:00 AM

New Services And Business Opportunities

This session will provide an educated perspective of the range of possibilities for creating innovate, new services built using H.350.

Discussions will include:

  • self-configuring endpoints,

  • identity management systems,

  • workflow and customer relationship management tools,

  • directory portals and

  • specialized endpoints.

This session will describe deployment scenarios for the enterprise and service provider, product requirements, and even touch on far reaching futuristic scenarios.

Deployment Choices

The presenters will supply general guidelines for deployment based on typically encountered scenarios. Scenarios covered will span starting from scratch to integrating H.350 services with existing directory and videoconferencing / VoIP infrastructure.

Analysis and recommended solutions to common challenges will be provided via a few case studies.

LUNCH

Parallel Breakout Sessions,
Part I 1:00 – 2:15 PM

LDAP Configuration Choices

The LDAP Configuration Choices breakout session will concentrate on the directory configuration options in different environments and highlight important configuration settings to secure the servers and protect the data.

This breakout will also present the Video Middleware Cookbook as a tool for use in deploying H.350. Modifiable applications for populating and managing H.350-enabled Directories will be provided to all attendees.

For Developers - interaction of H.350 with client and server or services

This session will focus on making sure that client and servers are LDAP-aware. We will point out what c-SDK and Java-SDK software are available for developers.

Code showing white pages lookup, sample authentication code and most importantly how to properly interpret commURI will be shared with attendees.

Brainstorm: Killer Implementations and Deadly Roadblocks

In this session attendees will have the opportunity to share deployment challenges and 'what if' scenarios they have encountered in their own institutions.

Building on these and the possibilities developed in the New Services And Business Opportunities session, this break out will drill down into specific product and service requirements for various scenarios. This session will also cover commonly encountered pitfalls and ways to avoid them, and strategies for navigating the politics of directory services management.
