June 12, 2002 Meeting
10am-1am EST
Agenda: Preparation for Hierarchy Release
Attending:
Egon Verharen
Bert Andree
Megan Crabb
Tim Poe
Tyler Johnson
Discussion
*******************
1. Release schedule at
http://www.unc.edu/video/videnet/version_3/release_schedule.html
was
approved.
2. It was decided that each NASM member will have an account on
each
global gatekeeper. The world will be divided by time zone. For example,
North, South and Central America would be managed by Tyler and Megan.
If
Brazil requests connection to the hierarchy, Megan or Tyler would
enter
that information not only in the US global root, but also in the
European and Australian global roots. Semaphores in the RADVISION
prevent data sync problems. MCM operation is an open question.
3. Policy on National Gatekeepers. It was decided that in the event
that
a country could not host its own national gatekeeper, it may be
sponsored by another national gatekeeper. Thus, policy on surrogate
hosting will be made by the individual host. NASM will not provide
this
service at the root level. Hosting might be divided along the same
map
that Egon provides for NASM areas of responsibility.
4. Policy. The current policy of NASM addressing decisions being
final
stands as is on the NASM website. We need to develop and publish
more
policy in general.
5. Megan and Egon are available for the 1st brown bag munch.
Action Items
************
1. Egon will find and mark up a world map denoting areas of
responsibility. Please forward to ViDeNet webmaster to post on NASM
web
page.
2. Tyler will contact Victor Reijs about hosting the ECS global
root for
Europe as Steve Williams seemed to indicate he may not provide this
service.
3. Tyler will forward configs to Megan Crabb for OSU US root.
4. Tyler will create initial zones for the hierarchy using the
ViDeNet
tool. Other NASM members will be added as they get their accounts.
