Streaming Video Working Group
MISSION
Although video-on-demand was one of the issues that led to the
creation of ViDe, and despite the fact that universities are already
heavily invested in serving multimedia over the Web for both their
campuses and distance education programs, there remains no consensus
as to what the best and most cost-effective practices are, nor any
guide for evaluating competing products and technologies.
To this end, the ViDe Streaming Media Working Group proposes
to:
- Survey current practices at colleges and universities
- Compile a checklist
of vendors, products and technologies,
and establish criteria for evaluation
- Develop a Streaming Media Cookbook,
which will detail best practices
for creating, streaming and storing multimedia over IP.
- Promote closer collaboration
between higher education and the
vendor community
